Create a canary, add one curl command, and confirm it reports in.

Start in the UI, then move the generated URL into your job.

Create the canary

Name the job and choose how long it may stay silent before it counts as failed.

Copy the ping URL

Every canary has a public ping URL. It is safe to put in cron logs and job definitions.

Ping after success

Put the ping after the work succeeds. Silence becomes the failure signal.

cron recommended pattern

  curl -fsS https://tools.devops.care/canaries/ping/<canary-id>/daily-backup
Why after success?

If the backup command exits early, the curl command does not run, and Canaries can alert on the missing check-in.
